A New Cite for the City of Miami . From Sunpost 05/27/04
Condo conversions from existing rental buildings are commonplace these days, but the newly announced Cit is notable because the building wont be completed until fall 2004. MCZ/Centrum, a Chicago-based development partnership, purchased the Village on Bayshore Drive from the Finger Companies of Houston,while it was already under construction as a rental building.
Cite is the second South Florida venture for MCZ/Centrum. The partnership recently converted The Wave on Hollywood Beach, and launched sales there last month.
Renamed Cite, the new mixed-use development will rank as the first of the many new condominiums planned for the Biscayne Corridor,one of the regions hottest redevelopment areas. The location: close to the new Performing Arts Center, north of Downtown Miami and Brickell and south of the Miami Design District.
Cite will function as a mini city occupying six and a half acres between Northeast 19th Street and Northeast 20th Terrace and spanning the area from Biscayne Boulevard to the recently renovated Margaret Pace Park on Biscayne Bay. Architects Cohen, Freedman, Encinosa & Associates have designed two six-story mid-rises, and one 15-story tower facing Biscayne Bay.
Residents need only go downstairs to find 19,000 square feet of street level retail fronting Biscayne Boulevard or a serene expanse of greenery in the eight-acre waterfront park.
